The night before my flight, I felt a mix of fear and excitement. It was my first time living away from home, and the thought of spending three months in a foreign country was both thrilling and terrifying. But what began with uncertainty soon became the most unforgettable experience of my life.

Together with close friends, I joined the Work and Travel USA program and was placed at Crater Lake National Parkin Oregon. Working in the park’s gift shop turned out to be a rewarding experience. I met people from all walks of life and learned to step out of my comfort zone, becoming more confident and outspoken. My managers and coworkers were incredibly kind, always making sure we felt welcomed and part of their community.

The friendships I formed were what made this journey truly special. My American colleagues often invited us along on long drives into town or scenic trips along Highway 138 to visit Oregon’s waterfalls. They even organized a sushi-making night so we could share a piece of home. Their warmth and generosity taught me the beauty of kindness and the importance of appreciating small moments.

Celebrating Fourth of July at Diamond Lake, watching fireworks reflect on the water, was another highlight that made me realize how vast and beautiful life can be. After my time at Crater Lake, I traveled to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New York, each city adding a new layer to this adventure.

This journey taught me independence, patience, and appreciation for people and places. It reminded me that stepping out of our comfort zones is the only way to truly grow.

As Helen Keller once said,

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.”
